As he establishes his imprint on the squad for their World Cup qualifiers, new head coach Hansi Flick has been entrusted with wooing back angry German supporters.

Since dropping out early at the 2018 World Cup, Flick inherits a squad that has sunk to 16th in the standings and has battled with uneven performances over the previous three years.

Joachim Low stepped down following Germany's defeat to England in the final 16 of Euro 2020, after 15 years in command, and Flick, who was his assistant coach when Germany won the 2014 World Cup, is now in charge.

"We want to win hearts again, come across as likable and play successful, dynamic, attractive football," said Oliver Bierhoff, Germany's team director.

"During the European Championship, criticism came up again that we seemed a bit passionless. We want to change that."
