Former Manchester United winger Antonio Valencia has announced his retirement from football, in a statement earlier today on the Gallos Blancos website:

"It is a difficult decision because I feel I can still contribute, but something is not right in my knees. It is hard watching everybody else giving it their all in training while you can't do the same".

The Ecuadorian international was signed by Queretaro to a deal just six months ago, and collected 14 caps for Gallos Blancos while also scoring one goal. He began his career with Ecuadorian side El Nacional, and was signed by Villareal in 2005. He spent two seasons in Spain, and was signed by then Premier League side Wigan where he played for two seasons before joining the Red Devils in 2009, playing at Old Trafford for 10 seasons. He then went back to his country to play for LDU Quito for two years and finally arrived in Mexico at Queretaro FC.
